    2021 harvest underway!

Temperature this morning was 9ºC so we are getting the pick done in cool but clear weather. Volume is small, so all harvest and processing should be completed today.

Even in a wet year, there’s no rot at all. A few dried berries because of early downy mildew.

Thanks to our Vineyard Manager Sergio for sending photos today. So disappointing for Ann and Peter not to be able to be there!

    Mowing

We don’t like to mow often but this year has seen extra rain so the covercrop has grown well and completely covers the surface, lowering the temperature in the fruiting zone, thus helping to retain acidity. It takes our encargado Carlos about three days to trim the whole vineyard manually. It's not his favourite job, but that just means he won’t do more than is needed! Thanks Carlos.

    New reviews from Rick VanSickle

Thanks to some decanted small bottles, Rick VanSickle was able to remotely taste and review some current and upcoming wines for his WinesInNiagara.com website. Although we miss the chance to taste with Rick in person, safety first!

Versado Malbec 2017 ($25, Vintages later this year, 91 points) "A lovely drop that can be aged for 5+ years."

Versado Old Vine Malbec 2015 ($40, available through CRU Wine Merchants, 93 points) "This is a highly elegant and terroir-driven example of Malbec at its finest. It will provide excellent drinking for many years to come."

    Versado Malbec 2017 (Mendoza, Argentina)
Dense purple-ruby in colour; lightly cedary, spicy, mulberry nose; full-bodied, dry, savoury, richly-extracted black fruit flavours carried on tangy acidity; firmly structured with ripe tannins. Great length. Will cellar well. (90–91)

    Versado Old Vines Malbec 2015
Vines planted in 1920 in the Cobos Estate Vineyard, Lujan de Cuyo. Opaque purple in colour; intense and complex nose of leather, spice, licorice and black plum with well-integrated oak; full-bodied, dry, ripe blackcurrant and blackberry flavours beautifully balanced with lively acidity; lovely mouth-feel.
